Brewing in the spirit of founder Sam Calagione’s slogan: “Off-centered ales for off-centered people”, Dogfish Head has found a national audience for its “extreme beers”. These have included ales developed using research from archaeologists; recipes featuring unusual ingredients, from chicory to chilies; and beers that simply have more of everything. The brewery recently installed the largest wooden brewing vessels built in America since before Prohibition. Calagione is a tireless promoter, and author of three books, including one in which he and his sommelier co-author debate the merits of beer versus wine. Dogfish still operates a brewpub in Rehoboth Beach, where Calagione started in 1995.

Pangaea ale blends ingredients from every continent, including water from Antarctica.


Midas Touch

beer style: Historic Beer
alcohol content: 9% ABV

The ingredients—white Muscat grapes, honey, and saffron—create layers of flavor, melded with subtle acidity.


World Wide Stout

beer style: Imperial Stout
alcohol content: 18% ABV

Not a classic rendition, but much, much stronger. Port-like, with dark fruits, ripe berries, and a massive dose of alcohol.


60 Minute IPA

beer style: India Pale Ale
alcohol content: 6% ABV

Flagship session beer brewed with Warrior, Amarillo, and “Mystery Hop X”, and brimming with citrus flavors.


Festina Pech

beer style: Sour Ale
alcohol content: 4.5% ABV

Labeled a “neo-Berliner Weisse” and fermented with peaches. Fruit sweetness is nicely balanced by tart wheat and slightly sour elements.
