Sierra Nevada Brewing has been introducing beer drinkers to citrussy, piney Northwest hops since former homebrewers Ken Grossman and Paul Camusi launched their flagship Pale Ale in 1981. Although many other more bitter beers have since emerged, the brewery continues to act as a matchmaker between beer drinkers and hops. Sierra Nevada is also an industry leader in good environmental practice. It has commissioned the first phase of one of the country’s largest private solar installations, which will bring it close to its goal of generating 100 percent of its energy needs.

Pale Ale

beer style: Pale Ale
alcohol content: 5.6% ABV

Piney, grapefruity Cascade hops play against malt fruitiness on both the nose and the palate.

Harvest Fresh Hop Ale

beer style: India Pale Ale
alcohol content: 6.7% ABV

Made with “wet” hops, harvested and brewed on the same day. Oily and aromatic, like picking and using herbs straight from the garden.

Bigfoot

beer style: Barley Wine
alcohol content: 9.6% ABV

Earthy and chewy, with prominent citric hops and whiskeylike rich malts. Boldly bitter when young.

Celebration Ale

beer style: India Pale Ale
alcohol content: 6.8% ABV

A winter seasonal, full of citrussy hop flavors, notably of tangerines. A balanced, fruity-caramel malt backbone and persistent bitterness.
