1195-A Evans Avenue, San Francisco, CA, 94124

Two big eyes peering suspiciously out of the darkness decorate the brewery loading dock at Speakeasy Ales & Lagers, a nod to Prohibition days. Since Speakeasy opened in 1997, local sales have been its core business, and it remains a San Francisco brewery first and foremost. Its Big Daddy IPA is named after venerable local publican David Keene of the Toronado.

Big Daddy IPA

beer style: India Pale Ale
alcohol content: 6.5% ABV

Hop driven—juicy citrus and pine. Lightly caramel, enough sturdy malt to stand up to persistent bitterness.

Prohibition Ale

beer style: Amber Ale
alcohol content: 6.1% ABV

Their flagship, best on draft in San Francisco. Long hop flavors, particularly citrus, playing against a definite caramel sweetness.
