An Australian man who changed his life and shed 50kg by eating a potato-only diet has now turned the bizarre weight-loss method into a thriving business.

During this time he was anxious, clinically depressed and addicted to food. 

Instead of following a prescribed diet and fitness plan to lose weight, Mr Taylor took radical action and eliminated everything except potato.

'Potatoes came up as being the best choice. They've got the most amounts of scientific evidence behind them,' he previously told Daily Mail Australia.

'They’ve got all the carbs and proteins and fats and minerals and fibre and everything else.'

Not only did the humble spud shrink his waistline, it also helped ease feelings of depression and anxiety.

A report by Australian Popular Science - which doesn't advocate for a diet of potatoes - said it could be possible to extract enough nutritional value to maintain health. 

'The traditional white potato contains all the essential amino acids you need to build proteins, repair cells, and fight diseases,' wrote Ellen Airhart.

However, dietician Melanie McGrice said there could be a risk of nutritional deficiencies if people resort to eating only potatoes.
