Those who enjoy a McDonald's might want to stop reading.

Staff at the fast food chain have revealed have revealed what people should never order - especially if they want fresh food.

And they have revealed that fish patties often sit for hours after being cooked before being ordered.

One worker said the fish sandwiches sat in a dirty cupboard and were only cooked for a "few seconds" before being served, the Hertfordshire Mercury reported.

Workers also advised McDonalds ' food lovers to never to order food after 11pm as colleagues were more prone to drop ingredients on the floor and fail to wash their hands after using the bathroom.

The fast food secrets were revealed on the social media site Reddit after one user left a questions asking workers to advise on which foods to avoid in the chain.

Thousands replied to the question, detailing a number of horrifying stories from behind the scenes.

The anonymous user asked: "Fast food workers, what should we never order from you?"

One person, under the name blackjak852, replied saying: "I used to work at McDonald's. Don't order our fish patties.

"No one ever does and I swear some days we'd make a batch and it would sit there all day until someone ordered some."

Another user named, Call_Me_Feefer, agreed and said: "Fish fillet from McDonald's, I've seen those things sit there for hours before getting served."

Yet it was not just these two users on Reddit who said that the McDonald's fish fillet is something we should not be ordering.

"My McDonald's kept the fish sandwiches in a super dirty cabinet and spent like five seconds cooking it when it actually gets ordered," said SGkurisu, another user of the website.

Customers at McDonald's were also urged not to order after 11pm.

The Pastry Dragon, said: "I wouldn't order from McDonald's after 10pm. We had a toilet where the sink was outside of the door.

"At night management counts money and does paperwork, so it is pretty much anarchy.

"Anyway, several people would use the restroom without washing their hands or putting on gloves and then make food.

"Or pick food off the floor and serve it."

McDonald's staff were not the only fast food employees who responded to the question with an employee of Subway saying that the branch where he worked served chicken that had been "boiled in a microwave" as opposed to "oven roasted."

KFC also came under the spotlight with diners warned to avoid their gravy.

"Former KFC cook here," said JoeyBosa. "I recommend that you don't consume the KFC gravy.

"It is primarily made of the filthy oil that stores up at the bottom of the cookers over the day and is then served to customers the next day."

A spokesman for McDonald's told the Birmingham Mail: "This thread first appeared back in March and relates to our US market - it has no bearing on the UK market or our products."

Subway and KFC have been approached for comment.
