Just two years after tying the knot, The Wiggles' sweethearts Emma Watkins and Lachlan Gillespie have announced their separation.

Yellow Wiggle Emma, 28, and Purple Wiggle Lachlan, 32, confirmed their sad split via a joint statement on Friday. An announcement which might upset some of the smallest members of your household.

If you've got a Wiggles fan at home, there's every chance they are aware that two of their favourites are husband and wife, which means that now you may find yourself having a conversation about divorce and what that means.

Online, parents are sharing their disbelief at the shock split and wondering how best to break the new to their kids.

"I won't lie, I am shook. The Wiggles have waaay to much impact on your life when you have a toddler," one mum told Now To Love.

"Well if the Wiggles can't stay together then there is no hope for the rest of us," a second added.

"This better not mess with my son's wiggle time," a third said.

Explaining The Wiggles Divorce to your kids

Whether it's a divorce in the immediate family, the family of friends or a celebrity divorce like The Wiggles Divorce, divorce and separation can be a difficult concept for young children to understand.

While very young children will usually accept your explanation without asking for detailed reasons, explaining that sometimes people don't get along can make their little minds jump to conclusions, which will need some further reassuring.

Your child may have questions, and it's best to address them as you never know what assumptions their little minds might make.

If you're happily married, you can approach the topic explaining that divorce happens for many different reasons to some families, and take the time to reassure them that it is not happening to their own family.

This conversation could include the information that arguing is a natural part of long-term relationships and does not necessarily mean that divorce will follow.

Most importantly children want to know how the news will impact them directly.

We're sure the team at Wiggles central will take their young audience into consideration with this news moving forward, so you can reassure them that these things do happen, and that everyone's goal here is for everyone to stay happy.

Reading Emma and Lachie's own words might help.

Emma and Lachy's love story had become one of the nation's most treasured fairy tales after the children's entertainers fell in love working on the popular super-group.

They dated for two years and then in April 2016, families around the world rejoiced when the pair tied the knot in a stunning ceremony at Hopewood House in Bowral, NSW.

"We have, and continue to share, the most beautiful life together, but we wanted to let you know that privately for the last six months we have been navigating through a trial separation, and we have made the decision to separate as a couple," the stars explained in statement released to the Daily Telegraph.

"Throughout that period, we have performed hundreds of shows together and that is always a continued source of joy for us both."

"We have embraced this as a very positive change in our relationship. Our incredible friendship has been strengthened throughout this time and what we have discovered is that, more than ever, first and foremost we love and adore performing as Emma and Lachy in The Wiggles and having the privilege of celebrating this happiness with extraordinary families around the world."

"We have chosen a different path to travel in our personal lives, but please know that we are stronger than ever and we can't wait to see you at a show soon. We will not be commenting beyond this, and we thank you in advance for respecting our privacy," they concluded.
