The christening of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's son Archie on Saturday was a largely private affair, attended by a small group of the couple's family and friends.

While photos were released following the celebration, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made the decision to keep their list of godparents private.

The royal couple has a wide mix of friends, ranging from Harry's old pal Charlie Van Straubenzee to tennis pro and friend of Meghan Serena Williams.

But one man reportedly very close to Markle is make-up artist Daniel Martin. Martin, who has known the Duchess for years and also works with a number of celebrities including Jessica Alba and Elisabeth Moss, previously contributed to Meghan's old blog The Tig and did the make-up on her wedding day in 2018.

Earlier this year he visited Meghan at what appeared to be her former home in Kensington Palace - sharing an image of a spread that was reportedly whipped up by the Duchess herself, the "avocado toast whisperer" - and was also a guest at her New York baby shower in February.

Martin was also reportedly one of the first to visit the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at their new home, Frogmore Cottage. While he did not post any images from the cottage, he did a shot of himself very near the couple's home in Windsor, with the caption, "Hmm???"

Now speculation that Martin might be a godfather to baby Archie has been thrown up by his recent visit to London, which appears to have overlapped with the date of the christening and also saw him have lunch at the Ivy and tea at Harrods. On Wednesday, Martin posted an Instagram story from The Wolseley captioned, "after a fun day with friends, ending our trip to London."

Others rumoured to be godparents to baby Archie are Harry's friend Charlie Van Straubenzee and his former nanny Tiggy Pettifer.

Royal Family members traditionally have a larger than normal set of godparents. Prince George has seven, including William and Harry's cousin Zara Tindall and Princess Diana's old friend Julia Samuel.
