The Queen needs a new phone operator to help handle the 4,000 calls a week to Buckingham Palace

The starting salary is £23,000-a-year plus benefits and a 15% employer contribution pension scheme.

"It's being the first port of call to the business behind the Monarchy," says the advert on the Royal website.

"It's feeling inspired to deliver to the very highest standards, and it's the pride in being part of a team at the heart of a world famous institution.

"This is what it feels like to work for the Royal Household.

"This is no ordinary switchboard role. With around 4,000 calls every week, you'll join our valuable team of telephonists at the heart of the organisation.

"Answering and processing calls for a number of Royal residences, you will provide an efficient and friendly service to external callers, and internal colleagues at all levels across multiple locations.

"Dealing with day-to-day queries will be a big part of your role. After extensive training, you will be responsible for handling each call appropriately, and you will quickly become familiar with this unique and varied organisation.

"With previous switchboard experience, you are a confident and professional communicator who feels at ease liaising with individuals at all levels.

"Customer focused in your approach, you are keen to go the extra mile to ensure callers' expectations are surpassed every time.

"Basic IT skills are also needed so that you can navigate the computerised switchboard system, and keep accurate records of the large volume of calls received.

"What's more, you're able to think on your feet which will be critical, as you'll never know what query you will be answering next.

"Above all, your pro-active and flexible approach to work means you will enjoy working within a small and dedicated team."

Applications close on April 11.
