This week Jet Shenkman, founder and creative director of Eponine, takes us inside her wardrobe...

When did you hit your fashion stride?

It took me decades to find my own style - I guess not until I was in my mid-forties.

What’s your personal uniform?

At the weekend, it’s battered workwear that I source from France, worn with a cotton lace top or a vintage cashmere cardigan. And during the week, an Eponine dress.

Which pieces do you spend the most on?

I spend the most money on shoes. In the winter I love wearing chunky Penelope Chilvers ankle boots with thick tights or socks and an Eponine dress. My wonderful husband spoils me each Christmas with a pair of Gucci loafers which I wear all year round.

And the least?

Simple white t-shirts from H&M and tights from Calzedonia - both are great value and quality.

What are your go-to brands?

I don’t shop a lot anymore, but if I feel like a bit of browsing my go-tos are Yoox, Asos and Etsy for vintage pieces.

What’s the hardest-working item in your wardrobe?

My Nike cap that I bought in NYC 15 years ago and still wear when I exercise. The piece I’ve had the longest is a sleeveless black down jacket which I bought at least 20 years ago from LL Bean.

What’s the best piece of style advice you’ve ever been given?

Follow your instincts: if you don’t go ‘YES!’ when you first try it, put it back.

Cotton dress, £560, Eponine London; Cotton blouse, £24.99, H&M; Leather loafers, £540, Gucci; Cashmere cardigan, £110, Boden.

What do you feel your best in?

Without a doubt, a dress.

What’s your beauty routine?

It’s very low maintenance as I’m too restless for regular facials, but I’m religious about moisturising and removing my make-up at the end of the day.  For this, I use a cloth and gentle foaming cleanser from Obagi (obagi.com). I wouldn’t be without the whole Obagi range, or my Aromatherapy Associates bath relaxing bath oil (aromatherapyassociates.com).
