Cast your mind back to the eighties and nineties when VHS tapes were all the rage, and all you could ever dream of for your birthday was a new Disney video to add to your collection...yes, video.

Those days are long gone, with today's children seeing what they like, when they want, thanks to Sky movies on demand, Cbeebies, play and pause TV and apps that let you watch Cinderella anytime, anywhere.

But there are a few among us that are still looking to complete those old Disney VIDEO box sets - and they're willing to pay some impressive amounts to get them.

The most valuable Disney VHS tapes - have you got any?

The Little Mermaid

It was the 28th Disney animated feature and there are rumours of a remake underway which means originals could be about to rocket in value.

Right now, a typical VHS original will fetch you anything from £1 to £4 (NZ$1.82-$7.26) but if you own a Black Diamond edition, you're looking at up to £80 (NZ$145) in good or sealed condition.

The Lion King

Do you remember those warm summer holiday mornings on the sofa with Simba? You're not the only one.

Walt Disney released The Lion King on 7 October 1994 and it's been such a hit, it's now one of the most successful theatre shows to grace the West End, ever.

If you have a copy of the Disney Parks The Lion King VHS Illusion Notebook (which could once be picked up at Disneyland or Disneyworld , you're looking at around £20 per sale.

If you have a copy of the original DVD with inserts, you can fetch around £14.99 on eBay . A standard copy is worth a not so great £3.99 on eBay .

The real profit is in the deluxe Lion King editions , which just last week sold to an American buyer for just shy of £58.

If you've a copy of both The Lion King and Aladdin brand new, you may want to get it valuated as in February, one eBayer sold the two for £110 (NZ$199) .

Beauty and the Beast

Demand for the 1992 edition of Beauty and the Beast appears to have spiked this year, as the live-action reboot, starring Emma Watson, took to box offices worldwide.

A typical copy of Beauty and the Beast on VHS will fetch you around £10 to £15 in mint or working condition, however the real profit is in the Black Diamond copies - of which there are very few.

Disney Black Diamond VHS editions were part of the firm's first attempt to sell directly to the home market - in today's age, they're considered the most valuable.

In March this year, a rare copy of Beauty and the Beast sold for just over £86 (NZ$156) on eBay - that's the highest reported sale to date, although some sellers have listed them for up to £15,000 (NZ$27233) .

Snow White

Another 1994 hit, Snow White, was the film of the year after the 1938 cartoon was redeveloped into a children's live action movie 23 years back.

Today, eBay sellers are clearing out their original copies for anything from £1.49 to £19.95 a copy (depending on condition) , but if you own the deluxe video edition, which is considered 'extremely rare' , you're looking at a £40 sale.

Song of the South

Released in 1946, this Disney animation came under huge scrutiny for its portrayal of African Americans - in fact, it's still criticised today as one of Walt's most controversial creations of all time.

In you owned a copy of this back in the day, you could be sitting on a decent profit, with original copies selling for up to £25.99 on eBay .

Dalmatian Vacation

Last but not least, while 101 Dalmations featuring evil Cruella will bag you up to £30 there's a bigger profit to be made in the 1998 movie Dalmation Vacation - part three of the movie box set .

One copy sold last week for £30 on eBay - compared to the tiny priced you'd have paid back then, that's a sweet profit.
