A Scottish castle has gone up for sale at a price less than the average home.

Granted, real estate website Rightmove lists it as a villa with ‘castellated tower’.

But we’re talking turrets, the lot, so the word castle seems entirely appropriate.

Built in the 19th century, the Gothic B-listed building in Springburn, Glasgow, has a lounge and a sitting room, three bedrooms, a pretty indoor garden, a spiral staircase leading to the top of the tower, Glasgow Live reports.

From there, you get panoramic views of Glasgow below.

So how much will this historic - and fairly fairytale-worthy - pile of bricks set you back?

Well, the seller is accepting offers in excess of £210,000. (NZ$358,300)

The average home price in Britain is around £214,000. (AU$365,000)

The Broomfield Road property is near Springburn Park.

But it has its own, well-maintained gardens and driveways on either side if you feel like upping the proverbial drawbridge and hiding away.

The cost is not exactly spare change but when you consider that one bedroom flats can go for more some might give Springburn a try.
