Twitter down for millions in US, Europe, Asia and Australia © Reuters Twitter down for millions in US, Europe, Asia and Australia Twitter crashed abruptly on 14 April at around 2.30am GMT, affecting millions of users across the US, Australia and Japan. While the social media network's website and app were down due to a technical problem, the outage lasted for an hour after which services were restored in some parts of the world.

However, the site crashed again leading users to take to Facebook to voice their woes. A Twitter spokesperson confirmed the outage saying: "Some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter. We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution."

Even as the microblogging site started experiencing issues, third party apps like Tweetdeck appeared to be functioning fine. Down Right Now reported that the social networking site was experiencing a "likely service disruption". So far, there has been no comment from Twitter on how many areas have been affected by the outage, although the tech giant called it a "partial service disruption" on their website.

So far there is no confirmation as to when the site will completely be restored, but there are conflicting reports suggesting that the issue is intermittent. At 6.10am GMT, the site seemed to be functioning fine for some users.
