You will lose your $159 Apple AirPods, says everyone on the internet

Apple introduced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The phones’ new features include a more advanced camera, water and dust resistance and better battery life.

But the thing capturing attention on social media isn’t an iPhone feature but a new accessory: “AirPods.”

The $159 wireless headphones that Apple (AAPL) unveiled today connect to any type of Apple device running the latest versions of its various operating systems across devices (iOS 10, watch OS3 or macOS Sierra) and last for five hours on a charge. The AirPods will be available beginning in late October.

As expected, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus won't have headphone jacks. A new version of Apple’s standard headphones, “EarPods,” will come with the phones and will connect to the lighting charger on the phone, plus the phones will come with an adapter to connect older headphones. AirPods must be purchased separately.

And those earpieces are drawing plenty of critics, mostly from those convinced they will, inevitably or immediately, get lost.

Apple didn't return MarketWatch’s request for comment about whether there would be a smaller price tag to purchase just one AirPod.

And some people just feel nostalgia for traditional headphones.

Even brands are getting in on the headphone hate.
