Lamborghini will grow its Aventador range by one in 2017, with the addition of a more powerful Aventador S model.

We’ve spotted a trademark application for the Aventador S name and badge, confirming the new model is in the pipeline. We’ve also got spy shots of a disguised, aggressive looking new Aventador model testing on the Nurburgring, suggesting a reveal isn’t far away.

The Aventador was introduced in 2011, and given that it’s in for a long life cycle – the Murcielago it replaced was in production for nine years – a facelifted model is now due. The Aventador S model should usher this new look in, alongside an advance on the 690bhp produced by its 6.5-litre V12.

We don’t know how much more power the Aventador S will get, but using the 740bhp Aventador SV as a yardstick, a bump in the region of 20bhp to take power to 710bhp seems realistic. Lamborghini has sold a 710bhp Aventador in the past too – the 50 Anniversario edition.

Our spy shots of this new Aventador hint at its altered design, with several standout tweaks. At the front the air vents appear to have been rearranged, with a long, thin honeycomb vent at the bottom. The large hexagonal intakes look set to be swapped out for two smaller ones, separated by a blade.

Going towards the rear wheels, Aventador SV inspired intakes sprout out from the car’s shoulders. Around the back an aggressive looking new diffuser houses a large, redesigned exhaust exit too. We should hear more about the Aventador update in 2017.

Will the Aventador S be one of the best supercars of 2017? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
