A statue of Antarctic explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott, broken in the Christchurch earthquake, is back on display.

The marble statue was unveiled in front of Mr Scott's family and a crowd of dignitaries in the Garden City on Friday.

It fell from its plinth in the February 22 earthquake.

The statue honours the life of the polar explorer and those who lost their lives on a return journey from the South Pole in 1912.
