Crimes that shocked New Zealand

Slide 1 of 33

The murder of Lois Tolley (2016)

Lois Tolley was found dead, stabbed and shot on her lounge floor on December 9, 2016. Tolley had been home alone when four people smashed their way into her Ward St flat. Evidence confirmed Tolley was targeted, possibly for trivial reasons, such as feeding the group with enough cash and drugs to get them through the night. After the murder, one of the attackers was heard yelling "What have we done?"

Operation Archer was formed to search for her killers. On September 10, 2018, a 27-year-old man was arrested and charged with her murder. The investigation is ongoing.
