At least eight fire crews from across South Canterbury are still responding to the blaze on Tuesday morning.

Crews were alerted to a docked fishing vessel "well involved" in flames shortly after 9.30 pm on Monday, Fire and Emergency New Zealand southern shift manager Tim Reynolds says.

A Timaru Hospital spokesperson confirmed three people had been admitted to the hospital's emergency department.

She says nurses could not confirm the extent of their injuries.

Police were not aware of anyone being unaccounted for.

A fire and emergency spokesperson says teams are still trying to put out pockets of flames, but the blaze isn't threatening other vessels.
