The Electoral Commission is opening 485 polling places around the country compared with 295 in 2014, anticipating there will be more advance votes cast this election than ever before.

Ms Ardern is heading for Napier, where she'll be making a regional housing announcement before going to Hastings.

Mr English's day on the trail kicks off in Palmerston North.

It's another big day for the Greens - after launching their climate change policy on Sunday they'll be releasing their youth mental health plan on Monday.
