An elderly woman who was found dead in her Avondale home on Tuesday has been identified.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Franich says Mrs Rampiari, an Auckland resident aged 82, likely died due to a medical event. Police are still awaiting test results.

Mrs Rampiari's death will continue to be investigated due to a burglary of her home on St George Road on Tuesday, believed to have taken place between 10:30am and 3:30pm.

A number of items were taken in the robbery, including her jewellery.

Police say there is no evidence at this stage linking the 82-year-old's death with the burglary.

"We continue to keep an open mind as our investigation progresses," says Sergeant Franich.

Police urge anyone who may have information on the incident to come forward.
