Two people dead after light plane crash at Raglan

Two people have died in a light plane crash at Raglan this afternoon.

The plane crash happened a short time ago and the aircraft is thought to have come down in Raglan Harbour.

The Fire Service said the plane crashed into the harbour just to the south of the town centre.

A spokesperson said he understands emergency services workers have been able to walk out to the downed plane in shallow water.

Two bodies now recovered from crashed plane.

A nearby resident, Ted Glynn, said he heard "an almighty bang" that he thought sounded like something heavy crashing, such as a big truck.

He could not see the plane from this house but had since heard ambulance and fire sirens.
