A cyber attack has resulted in almost 1 million Germans being kicked off the internet.

Hundreds of thousands of people in Germany have been kicked offline following a cyberattack targeting internet routers belonging to Deutsche Telekom customers.

Hackers deliberately targeted the remote management of DSL routers, the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) said.

The German telecoms giant confirmed the attack, which affected 900,000 internet connections.

Telekom began working to reinstate the connections on Sunday afternoon, with most people back online by Monday. The Bonn-based company said there was no indication that customer data was stolen.
