The fatal police shooting of David Cerven in Myers Park has been found justified by the police watchog, but it's only one of several in the last year:

* July 14 2016: Shargin Stephens, 35, pepper-sprayed and fatally shot after waving a large "slasher" at police on a Rotorua street

* July 12 2016: 36-year-old Hamilton man Nick Marshall at industrial Frankton property, shot after pointing a long-barrelled gun at police carrying out a raid

* June 10 2016: 57-year-old Mike Taylor in Paeroa shot after approaching police with a machete when they were called to a domestic incident

* September 9 2015: 25-year-old Pera Smiler in Upper Hutt, shot in an armed stand-off outside the McDonald's restaurant

* August 2 2015: 21-year-old Slovakian man David Cerven in Myers Park, Auckland, shot after telling police he had a gun

* May 3 2015: 33-year-old Vaughan William John Te Moananui in Thames, shot after confronting police with a gun at a property
