Dear Feet That Have Touched My Face,
You have not witnessed the horrors I have witnessed.
You have not felt the pain I have felt.
You have not heard the cries I have heard.
You have not tasted the dirt I have tasted.
You have not smelled the odors I have smelled.
You do not know who I am, so you cannot choose my loyalties.
Dear Feet That Have Touched My Face,
I witnessed fiery flames engulf Ankara, Turkey.
I felt the impact of trembling quakes.
I heard the final cries of 103 souls.
I tasted the flesh of scorched children.
I smelled the remnants of suffering.

Dear Feet That Have Touched My Face,

I witnessed foreign drones decorate the sky of Sanna, Yemen.
I felt the blows of explosive metal.
I heard the sharp screams of 22 beings.
I tasted the gasps of dying lungs.
I smelled the arrival of unrest.
Dear Feet That Have Touched My Face,
I witnessed bombs surround Beirut, Lebanon.
I felt the rush of scattering legs.
I heard the roaring sobs of 43 humans.
I tasted the tears of orphaned infants.
I smelled the fear of future bloodshed.
Dear Feet That Have Touched My Face,
I witnessed bullets devour Dalori, Nigeria.
I felt the roughness of used gun powder.
I heard the closing beats of 86 hearts.
I tasted the blood of faultless students.
I smelled the departure of hope.

Dear Feet That Have Touched My Face,

I could write until the pen in my hand collapsed from the weight of the words it has written.
You have not heard these words because you have stolen my voice.
You have chosen to paint your headlines and illuminate your buildings in the colors you think represent my allegiance.
You do not know me, so you cannot choose my loyalties.

Dear Feet That Have Touched My Face,
I am the streets of Paris.
I am the soils of Garissa.
I am the deserts of Cairo.
I am the beaches of Gaza.
I am the grounds of Belgium.
Dear Feet That Have Touched My Face,
I am the Yazidis of Iraq.
I am the Christians of Cameroon.
I am the Shia of Kuwait.
I am the Rohingya of Burma.
I am the Sunnis of Pakistan.
I am the Jews of Syria.
I am the believer and the non-believer.

Dear Feet That Have Touched My Face,

I am drenched in the matching blood of my inhabitants.

Sincerely Yours,
A Battered and Beaten Earth
