A new school will be built in Hamilton's Sylvester suburb, taking year one to six students from the first term of 2019.

Education Minister Hekia Parata says an establishment board of trustees will soon be appointed.

It will be responsible for appointing a principal and determining school policy.

"The school will be a focal point for families living in the area and a valuable community asset," Ms Parata said.

"It will provide safe, supporting and inclusive learning environments that reflect the community."
