Actor on trial in US for murdring his wife

Associated Press Associated Press 24/05/2016

A lawyer for actor Michael Jace, who played a cop in The Shield, says his client accepts responsibility for killing his wife but jurors will have to examine why it happened.

Lawyer Jamon Hicks said, in his opening trial statement on Tuesday, that Jace's mindset on the day he shot and killed his wife April, in 2014, will be a key issue in the case.

Hicks says Jace's legal team will seek to explain why the actor shot and killed his wife of nine years.

Hicks brief opening statement was made after the prosecutor who told the jury that the 53-year-old actor planned the shooting and taunted his wife before she died.

Jace played a police officer on the The Shield and had minor roles in the feature films Boogie Nights and Forrest Gump.

He faces 50 years to life in prison if convicted.
