New Zealand centre Steven Adams has made a subdued NBA return from injury in a winning cause for the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Adams was down on his usual numbers as the Thunder made a late charge to upset the Utah Jazz 97-95.

It was the 23-year-old's first game since suffering a head knock when he fell to the floor against Sacramento nine days earlier.

The lofty Kiwi was forced to sit out losses to the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors before passing the Thunder's concussion protocol.

A return of nine points was down on his season average of 13 although he was a strong defensive presence against noted Jazz opposite Rudy Gobert, produced four blocks and six rebounds.

The result keeps the Thunder (26-19) sixth in the Western Conference, one place behind Utah (29-17), who had won their previous six games.
