Adams beaten by Carter in Germany

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 3/09/2016

New Zealand's Valerie Adams has lost her latest shot put joust with Olympic champion Michelle Carter, pipped by 5cm at a meet in Germany.

Double Olympic champion Adams managed a best of 19.63m at the World Challenge in Berlin but American Carter trumped it with 19.68m.

Both throwers were well below what they achieved at Rio in August, when Carter clinched gold with a national record 20.63m off her final throw, relegating Adams (20.42m) to silver.

Adams won their duel at a Diamond League meet in Paris last week, throwing 19.94m to be nearly half a metre clear of Carter.
