Shot putter Valerie Adams has turned the tables on American Olympic gold medallist Michelle Carter, beating her in the Diamond League meet in Lausanne.

Adam's best effort of 19.94m was nearly half a metre better than Carter's 19.49m.

She now has 46 Diamond Race points, with her nearest rival, the US's Tia Brooks, on 25 points after six of seven meetings.

Carter has 12 points.

"Today was a bit hot but I am happy with my results," said Adams, who won silver at Rio.

"The aim of the game now is to win, and especially after the Olympics my intention is to win all my remaining meets until the end of the season.

"So 19.94m and a win, I am happy with that."

Less than two weeks ago in Rio, Adam's effort of 20.42m was pipped for gold by Carter's break out 20.63m.
