New Zealand's Valerie Adams has unleashed her longest shot put throw for 18 months to win at the Diamond League event in Morocco.

Adams threw 19.68m with her fifth of six throws, which was more than 1m further than anybody in a relatively weak field in Rabat. Hungary's Anita Marton was second with 18.51m.

It was the 31-year-old double Olympic champion's best distance since September 2014, having spent most of last year recovering from elbow and shoulder surgery.

She has gradually improved since returning to the circle in March, earning bronze at the indoor world championships in Oregon with 19.25m and managed 19.52m at a meet near her Swiss training base two weeks ago.

At her best, Adams would consistently clear 20m.
