The 57-year-old's body was found in the eastbound lane of State Highway 16 through Grey Lynn following the suspected suicide on Thursday night.

On Friday morning, police said crash investigators had completed their investigation, there were no suspicious circumstances and the death would be referred to coroner.

"Police's thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this difficult time," they said in a statement.
