Al Nasr forfeit Champions League QF win over passport issue

Associated Press Associated Press 12/09/2016

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — The Asian Football Confederation has ruled that Al Nasr of the United Arab Emirates has forfeited the first leg of its Asian Champions League quarterfinal against El Jaish of Qatar due to fielding an ineligible player.

The AFC ruled Monday that Brazilian-born and Indonesian-nationalized forward Wanderley was ineligible as his Indonesian passport was a forgery.

Wanderley had scored two goals in Al-Nasr's 3-0 win, but the forfeit means that result had been annulled and El Jaish was awarded a 3-0 win; the standard result in the case of a forfeit.

The second leg will be played in Dubai on Wednesday.
