Ali Williams comes out of retirement

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 29/06/2016

Former All Black lock Ali Williams is coming out of retirement to play for French Top 14 champions Racing 92 next season.

The 35-year-old retired after playing for Toulon last year and had taken up a role with Racing as a media minder for their star Dan Carter.

When he quit playing he said his body had had enough, but a break from the game has changed his mind.

"When you keep involved and round the game and the body has time to recuperate you think that maybe there are possibilities that you can play again," he told the Sky Sport Rugby Union podcast.

"Being active with Racing 92 during the year we talked about it throughout the course of the year and decided that it was a good option for me to come back."

Williams played 77 Tests in an injury-interrupted career for the All Blacks between 2002 and 2012.
