Doubles to Joe Ravouvou and Dylan Collier in a handsome 40-14 win over Japan have booked New Zealand's place in the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Sevens.

The All Blacks Sevens made it two pool wins from two courtesy of their six-try display, coming a day after beating Wales 19-7.

They will contest Sunday's quarter-finals regardless the result of their final pool game against 16-time Hong Kong champions Fiji later on Saturday.

The Fijians opened with a 36-0 thrashing of Japan but struggled against Wales, coming from behind to draw 17-17.

New Zealand lifted their game a notch on day two, with hulking winger Ravouvou proving particularly effective in his first start.

The Aucklander unveiled tackle-busting ability and a sharp turn of speed to suggest he could be an important weapon in the knockout phase.

Late tries were scored by Isaac Te Tamaki and Sam Dickson while Japan crossed once in each half, through Jone Naikabula and Siosifa Lisala.

Other unbeaten teams to book their quarter-final slots are Australia, England, Argentina, the United States, Canada and world series leaders South Africa.
