All Whites striker scores twice for Leeds

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 17/04/2016

All Whites striker Chris Wood has scored twice in 15 minutes to secure Leeds United a late 3-2 win over Reading at Elland Road.

Reading led 1-0 at halftime and 2-1 with just over 20 minutes remaining before Wood's powerful header proved too strong for goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi.

Five minutes from fulltime, Wood secured the win with a composed finish past Al-Habsi for his 11th goal of the season.

Coach Steve Evans paid tribute to Woods' work rate and clinical finishing.

"The goal which pleased me the most was the second one," he told the club's website.

"When you go through on goal like that, that's when you know if you're a good striker or not a good striker.

"He had time to pick his spot and that's what he did. That's what he brings to the team."

The win was Leeds' second in four days, and leaves them in 12th place on the Championship ladder, three points off the top 10 with four games remaining.
