Alleged fraudster caught in Remuera

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 20/07/2016

Police in Auckland have finally caught up with an alleged fraudster who has been a "thorn in the side" of locals for two years.

The 49-year-old is facing 54 fraud offences relating to credit cards stolen from cars in Remuera.

Police have been chasing him since a warrant was issued in February but said his transient nature made him hard to find.

Remuera's community constable caught a lucky break while driving through the suburb on Wednesday, recognising the man walking along the road.

"The Remuera area has been suffering from a series of thefts from cars parked on roads and in driveways over the past couple of years," Inspector Andy King said.

"This offending has been a thorn in the side of Remuera for some time and there will be a lot of people relieved that we have caught up with him."

The man is expected to face Auckland District Court on Thursday.
