AMC Debuts New Series ‘Halt And Catch Fire’… On Tumblr?

Movies and TV shows about technology are all the rage these days, it seems. Ever since David Fincher made , we’ve seen more tech folks represented in mainstream media.

The latest series to ride this wave is AMC’s new series “.” The show, which is based in the 1980s, attempts to takes us back to the early days of the personal computer and rewrite history to make that era of technology actually look interesting.

Annnnddd.. In an effort to market the show for and about a tech industry to the tech industry, AMC is putting the first episode in the place where the hip, tech-savvy kids hang out these days — on Tumblr.

Beginning today and running through Saturday, May 31, AMC will preview the show for two weeks at , as well as on its own website and various other TV Everywhere services.

It’ll also be showing a preview of the show to a number of “Tumblr influencers” at a screening in New York City tonight, and has set up private screenings at a number of tech company headquarters, including Apple, Twitter, Google, and Dropbox.

The hope is that by releasing early AMC can capture some of the interest of the tech crowd, and by putting the series premiere on Tumblr, make it easy for viewers to share and get other people watching. Of course, a lot will depend on whether or not the show is actually any good, but that so far remains to be seen.

“Halt and Catch Fire” debuts June 1 at 10:00 pm. But you will have probably already watched and Tumbled the first episode by then.
