Another 300 new homes for Auckland

A new 300-home development on Auckland's Point England Reserve has been announced.

Building and Housing Minister Nick Smith says the reserve has been poorly used for decades, with 18ha of it being used to grazing cows.

"This plan is about replacing the cows with homes and enhancing the balance of the reserve with improved recreational and cultural facilities," he said on Tuesday.

Dr Smith will bring a bill to parliament on Wednesday authorising 11.7ha of the 48ha reserve to be used for housing.

The development is a joint venture between the government, the Tamaki Redevelopment Company and Ngati Paoa.
