Another $1 million to help Syrians

New Zealand has given another $1 million to help Syrians affected by the civil war, including those in Aleppo.

The money is going to the International Red Cross and brings New Zealand's total aid to Syria since 2012 to $26m.

"New Zealanders are appalled at the ongoing death and destruction in Syria and the conditions on the ground in besieged areas such as east Aleppo," Foreign Minister Murray McCully said on Friday.

The IRC has been helping evacuate people from Aleppo, where the Syrian government claims to have regained control.
