Another Wicked slogan banned

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 16/05/2016

Another Wicked Campers van slogan has been banned by the chief censor, this time due to a "highly degrading, dehumanising and demeaning" sexual term.

Wicked Campers, which operates out of Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown, has brash slogans and evocative imagery across its cars and vans, with some highly sexualised or violent messages.

Last month the chief censor's office banned three designs that used well-known characters from children's storybooks and television programmes to present drug use in a subversive manner.

The latest ban concerns a slogan on the rear of one of the vans that could be seen by following vehicles.

"The text on the back of the campervan is an expression of misogyny that degrades and dehumanises women," the chief censor's office says.

It ruled this slogan met the criteria for objectionable publications.

If the company continues to use any of the banned slogans they could face a fine of up to $NZ200,000 per offence.
