'Appalling' attacks captured on CCTV

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 29/08/2016

© NZ Police / CCTV Two offenders are still on the run after three men were knocked unconscious in separate "appalling" one-punch attacks within minutes of each other in Auckland.

Both serious assaults happened in the Auckland CBD just four minutes apart on July 2 but police believe the unprovoked attacks are unrelated.

Nearly two months on, officers have released CCTV footage of the assaults, which they say could have had life-altering consequences for the victims.

The first was knocked out by the single blow and suffered a fractured nose, cuts to his lips, needed stitches in his head and a bruised arm and tailbone when he was attacked in Jean Batten Place at around 4.01am.

At 4.05am two other men were knocked out by a single offender, causing the first a displaced jaw and the second a wound to his face.

"The unprovoked attacks in these videos are appalling and we are appealing to members of the public who know who these offenders are to get in touch with the police immediately," Detective Inspector Christ Cahill said.

He said it was alarming to see such violent behaviour, which past incidents have shown can result in life-altering consequences for the victims.
