Police are appealing to the three to four people involved in a fight with a man stabbed to death in west Auckland to come forward.

The 42-year-old was stabbed at a house on Hepburn Road, in the suburb of Glendene, on Saturday night, police say.

He was taken to Auckland Hospital where he died.

Police have launched a homicide investigation and say the death has no connection with the stabbing death of a 36-year-old woman just five kilometres away in Te Atatu on Saturday afternoon.

Another 36-year-old woman has been charged with her murder.

Detective Inspector John Sutton said police were called to Hepburn Rd at about 9pm where there was reported to be a dispute between the man and a group of people.

The man was in a critical condition when they arrived.

"The three to four we believed involved in the dispute with the deceased, we would like you to come forward and tell us what took place," Det Insp Sutton says.

A post mortem examination will he held on Monday when the victim's name is expected to be released.
