Argentina into Copa final

Lionel Messi was too much for the US to handle as Argentina steamrolled the host nation 4-0, booking a spot in the Copa America final.

Messi set up Ezequiel Lavezzi's opening goal in the third minute, then scored from a brilliant free kick to break Gabriel Batistuta's scoring record for Argentina and assisted on the final strike on Tuesday (Wednesday AEST).

Barcelona superstar Messi doubled the lead in the 32nd minute with his 55th international goal, his tournament-leading fifth, before Gonzalo Higuain scored a brace to complete the rout.

Argentina will seek their first major title since the 1993 Copa - and their first since Messi's debut in 2005 - when they play Chile or Colombia on Sunday (Monday AEST) in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
