Two men have used a large knife to demand money and cigarettes from a Tauranga service station worker, police say.

The men entered the Z service station on the corner of Mayfair Street and Fifthteenth Avenue in the early hours of Saturday morning.

One man was in dark clothes and had his face covered, the other was wearing a black beanie, Adidas shoes and a grey hoody with Puma written on it, Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier said.

Police are appealing for help from anyone who saw the two men.

The service station worker is not injured but has been traumatised by the robbery, Det Sgt Brazier said.
