Staff were threatened, customers made to lie down and shots fired during an armed robbery at an Auckland bar, police say.

Three offenders wearing disguises, two of whom had firearms, entered the Headin' Home Bar on Ti Rakau Drive in Pakuranga around 12.30pm on Wednesday.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Warrick Adkin says there were about 12 customers inside at the time.

The offenders threatened the staff and forced the customers to lie on the floor.

They took cash before fleeing in a white car that was waiting outside.

Acting Det Snr Sgt Atkin says the offenders fired shots during the robbery but fortunately no one was struck or injured.

He says police were called and a number of units were immediately deployed to the scene and the surrounding area.

Police Eagle Helicopter and several dog units also attended.

Multiple officers carried out searches of the area, but the offenders have not yet been located.

Acting Det Sen Sgt Adkin says a forensic scene examination is underway and officers are speaking to a large number of witnesses.

He says police want to hear from anyone who saw what happened or saw a white car parked in the bar car park around the time of the robbery.

Police are offering rewards for any information provided through Crimestoppers that leads to a successful prosecution.
