Police have arrested five men following an incident in one of Auckland's newer suburbs where another five people were attacked, ordered to lie on the ground at gunpoint and then robbed.

The incident, which police say they don't believe was random , happened on Tuesday night when a group of five friends were parked in Stonefield's Barbarich Drive, police say.

Five people drove up in a red Mazda hatchback, got out and presented firearms.

"Two of the victims were physically assaulted. The offenders forced all five victims out of the cars and ordered them to lie on the ground," said Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin.

They then stole various items from the five and fled in the Mazda.

Armed police raided a number of properties on Wednesday and arrested five men, aged between 18 and 20, who were charged with aggravated robbery. They will appear in court on Thursday.

A number of firearms and stolen property were also recovered.

Det Snr Sgt Baldwin said it was an "excellent result" to get arrests within 24 hours.
