Disgraced Tour de France cyclist Lance Armstrong wants to ride Auckland's waterfront again and has invited the public to join him.

The 45-year-old American announced his plans for Tuesday morning on social media.

"Good morning New Zealand! Let's ride Tuesday AM! Cruisy waterfront loop (Tamaki Drive/Cliff Road). 6am Mechanics Bay. See ya there!," he posted on Monday.

Initial response on Twitter generally tested positive but some weren't forgetting his past: "Let's ride to get some dope man," one responded.

Armstrong has already ridden along the waterfront with Kiwi Ironman Cameron Brown after landing in the city for the first time on Saturday.

Armstrong told media at the airport he'd never been to Auckland before.

He said he brought his bike and golf clubs and was planning to do some business.

There is speculation he's in New Zealand to film a commercial.

Armstrong won seven consecutive Tour de France titles between 1999 and 2005 but he was later stripped of them for using performance enhancing drugs.
