Arrest after Coromandel shot fired

NZ NewswireNZ Newswire 12/06/2016

Two arrests have been made on the Coromandel following a gun being fired in a small bay at the northern end of the peninsula - the third firearms incident there this year.

The armed offenders squad was called to Kennedy Bay on Sunday after a firearm was discharged and a ute rammed a parked car.

Police say a 27-year-old man has been charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and a 29-year-old with wilful damage.

They will appear in Hamilton District Court. Police are not looking for anyone else.

The marae in Kennedy Bay was put in lock-down in February after an alleged gun fight, which was said to be gang-related.

A month later police swooped on the township following a report a firearm was involved in a domestic incident.
