Renowned New Zealand psychologist Ceri Evans has been hired by English Premier League giants Arsenal.

British media reported on Sunday that former All Whites defender Evans was recently taken on by the London club, as a mental skills advisor.

Evans, 53, has worked with the All Blacks and was praised for his work by retired captain Richie McCaw.

More recently, he has been a mental skills coach for freshly-crowned WBO heavyweight boxing champion Joseph Parker.

Among numerous international sports roles was work last year with Mercedes Formula One drivers Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Evans was linked as a possibility to play for Arsenal during a five-year playing stint with second-tier Oxford United in the early 1990s.

His father Gwyn Evans had a lengthy playing career in London, as a defender for Crystal Palace.

Arsenal are second behind Chelsea nearing the midway point of the EPL season.
