Two people who escaped from the burning house on Orchard East Road at about 11.40pm on Thursday were treated for smoke inhalation at Thames Hospital and have been released, says Detective Sergeant Matt Rawson.

The house was engulfed by flames when emergency services arrived and it was extensively damaged.

Police are treating the fire as suspicious.

Police and a fire investigator were at the house on Friday.

Police are calling for witnesses, including two young men who stopped to help, to come forward.
