'Attempting to survive': Coast Guard searching for father, 3 teens off Fla. coast

U.S. Coast Guard officials continue to search off the coast of Florida for a sailboat carrying a father and his three teenage children, who were last heard from on Sunday, officials said Tuesday.

The Coast Guard in St. Petersburg were contacted by a concerned family member after the now-missing man called his brother to report 6-foot seas and said that he was "attempting to survive with his children" offshore of Englewood, Fla.

According to the Coast Guard, the man, his 13-year-old son, 15-year-old son and 17-year-old daughter were aboard the missing 29-foot sailboat, which left Sarasota at 7 a.m. Sunday, bound for Fort Myers, Fla.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Ashley J. Johnson said the U.S. Coast Guard has launched a HC-130 Hercules airplane from Clearwater, Fla., and several vessels from Stations Cortez and Fort Myers Beach.

Officials also activated a Maritime Emergency Response Team out of Fort Myers Beach,
